Fleece-lined tights – how to choose the right size and shade

The right size and the right shade are what make fleece-lined tights look natural and feel comfortable all day. Here are our best tips for choosing well.

Fleece-lined tights – how to choose the right size and shade

Fleece-lined tights have become a winter favourite for many. They look like sheer tights or bare legs, but have a warm lining inside. For the effect to look as natural as possible, two things need to be right: the size and the shade. Here's how to think about both.

How do fleece-lined tights work?

The outside is a thin, stretchy and opaque fabric, while the inside has a soft fleece lining that keeps in the warmth. The opaque, skin-toned outside means the tights can look like bare legs or sheer nylon tights from a distance – but nothing shows through when you bend over.

How to choose the right size

Because the material is very stretchy, the fit is often forgiving. But the right size makes a big difference to comfort and to how natural the tights look.

Start from your usual size

Most people can go by the size they usually wear in trousers or leggings. Our fleece-lined tights come in sizes XS to 2XL and fit leg lengths up to about 102 cm.

Signs the size is too small

  • The crotch sits low and the tights slide down during the day.
  • The fabric stretches so much that it looks lighter or shinier on the thighs and knees.
  • The waistband digs in or rolls down.

Signs the size is too big

  • Wrinkles at the ankles and behind the knees.
  • The foot part is loose or twists around in your shoe.

Between two sizes?

If you're tall or have long legs, it may be wise to choose the larger size so the fabric doesn't have to stretch to the max. If you like a firmer fit around the waist, the smaller size may suit you better. If you're unsure, you're always welcome to get in touch with us.

How to choose the right shade

The shade is what decides whether the tights look natural. The goal is usually to match your skin tone, or go slightly darker.

Our four shades

Elyssias fleece-lined tights come in four shades: Vanilla, Latte, Caramel and Espresso. The names give a good hint: Vanilla is the lightest and Espresso the darkest, with Latte and Caramel in between.

Tips for finding your shade

  • Compare with your legs, not your face. Many people have a slightly different tone on their legs than on their face, especially in winter.
  • Look in daylight. Indoor lighting can change how colours appear.
  • Unsure? Go slightly darker. A slightly darker shade often looks more natural than one that's too light.
  • Think about what you'll wear them with. With dark shoes and clothes, a warmer, darker shade can create a softer transition.

Also keep in mind that colours can look slightly different on different screens.

Foot with or without fleece?

The tights come in two versions: with fleece in the foot as well, or without fleece in the foot.

  • Foot with fleece: warmest – great with boots and for anyone who easily gets cold feet.
  • Foot without fleece: thinner in the foot, which works better in snug shoes, pumps and loafers.

If you wear thick socks in your boots anyway, the version without fleece in the foot may be more comfortable. Then you can pair them with our thick warming socks.

How to put them on

  • Roll one leg down to the toe before slipping your foot in.
  • Pull up a little at a time and spread the fabric evenly along the leg.
  • Make sure the crotch sits high before pulling up the waistband.
  • Take off rings and be careful with sharp nails.

Styling and care

Fleece-lined tights go with skirts, dresses and shorts, but also under trousers as an extra warm layer. Wash them inside out in cold water or by hand, and tumble dry on low or hang to dry. Avoid bleach and fabric softener so they stay soft for longer.

Frequently asked questions

Does the fleece show on the outside?

No, the lining is on the inside. The outside is opaque and smooth, so the tights look like regular skin-tone tights.

Which size should I choose if I'm tall?

If you have long legs, a larger size can give a better fit since the fabric doesn't need to stretch as much. Our tights fit leg lengths up to about 102 cm.

Which shade should I choose if I'm unsure?

Compare with the skin tone on your legs in daylight. If you land between two shades, the darker one often looks more natural.

Can I return them if the size doesn't fit?

Yes, at Elyssias you get 30-day returns. Get in touch with us and we'll help you from there.
